As many as 200 police were taking part in a major operation in Almada, on the outskirts of Lisbon, on Wednesday morning. According to initial reports coming through as the Resident went to press at least 10 people have been arrested and 2kg of heroin, as well as 1kg of hashish and various ‘illegal’ guns, seized.

PSP sub-commissioner Maria do Céu told the press that among the 25 properties to be searched since daybreak, 18 were homes and the rest “other types of establishments”.
With agents still working on the ground, noticiasaominuto online portal said the PSP was backed by the division for criminal investigation and the special police unit (UEP).
This is not the first time the sprawling urban neighborhood has been the focus of intense police swoops.
