The Mediterranean Spring Garden Fair will this year be held, for the first time since Autumn 2019, at the FISSUL Exhibition Hall in Silves on Saturday and Sunday, March 25 and 26.
Once again, this will allow a programme of free talks, workshops and demonstrations to be provided.
Topics will include the following:
- Making your first mediterranean garden – Q&A with Jardim Seco and MGAP members
- Best choice native species for your garden – João Gomes, Sementes de Portugal
- Basic propagation techniques – Rosie Peddle, MGAP
- Success with bromeliads and tillandsias – Jorge Freixal, Bromélias do Brejo
It will be possible to make a pre-order to collect at the event. We are very grateful to the growers and nurseries for their support of this initiative.
Following the end of testing and vaccination in FISSUL, it is now possible to hold our Spring Fair in the dedicated FISSUL exhibition centre in the town centre of Silves, next to the river.
There will be more space for exhibitors and all sales areas are inside. Our partner for this event will once again be the Freguesia of Silves, and we are very grateful to the President, Sr Tito dos Santos Coelho, and his team for their enthusiastic support.
MGAP will also have an MGAP Plant Sales table organised by our members, with plants from their gardens, and good advice about how to use them together with our popular bookshop and free advice on your sustainable garden.
Native plants and seeds from specialist suppliers will be for sale as well as ornamental and container plants. The fair will also include a Display Garden and sales of fruit trees and herbs. There will be a wonderful range of succulents available both for the garden and for containers.
This is an opportunity to buy the most appropriate plants for your garden and benefit from the advice and guidance of the knowledgeable nursery owners, speakers and MGAP members. High quality botanical art and card sales will also be available.
After completing their purchases, or if visitors want some time to consider the choices available, they can take in one of the free talks and take advantage of the plant crèche where purchases can be left in safe hands while continuing to enjoy the many attractions of the day.
Hot refreshments (including vegetarian) and bar facilities will be available. There will also be a range of organic produce and products for sale. Finally, we ask everyone to try to reduce plastic waste. Please bring your own bags/boxes if possible.
This event is jointly organised by Junta de Freguesia Silves and the Mediterranean Gardening Association Portugal (MGAP).
The Portugal Resident is proud to be a media partner for this event.
