THE ALGARVE is a paradise for food lovers. Restaurants throughout the region spoil you for choice and deciding where to go for a meal can be tricky. So I was glad to receive an invitation to try out a special restaurant, with a special someone – the choice was made for me…on the former, of course!
I had heard about this particular restaurant for its magnificent views of the ocean and relaxed ambience. It is located within Vila Palmeira, a well known resort set in beautiful surroundings, just a few metres from Meia Praia beach and its sand-dunes, near Lagos.
So “welcome to Restaurant Vivendo”! Indeed we were. Puzzled by what looked more like a bar, we were told by owner Mrs. Winiker that the restaurant was upstairs and we were at the Bistro-Bar. We were shown to our table and introduced to our waiter, Jorge, a Portuguese national who had gained vast experience working in restaurants in Switzerland.
After absorbing the relaxed feel of the beautifully decorated room in tones of blue and soft pink, it was time for us to enjoy the candlelit moment and prepare ourselves for what was to come.
Jorge described some of the dishes on the menu and tempted us to try the delicious Cheese Ravioli and Carpaccio dishes, followed by a mouth-watering Chateauxbriand for main course, all creatively served with the finest and freshest of ingredients. To continue delighting our taste buds, we ordered another bottle of red Quinta Seara d’Ordens (2001) from the Douro region.
This was Mediterranean cuisine at its very best – and it is believed that this kind of cooking is one of the factors responsible for the longevity of the Mediterranean people…
The inspired and tempting dishes, combined with the warm, friendly welcome and attentive service, had us planning the next visit, but this time earlier in the evening!
