Medieval tournaments enliven Sintra

HUNDREDS OF visitors have been plunged into medieval times in the past few days during Sintra’s annual Medieval Tournaments.

This year, the theme is a reconstruction of a 15th century fest day at the royal court of João I. The idea, supported by Sintra Câmara, is to recreate some of the popular activities of the 1420s in Portugal.

Residents of Sintra and tourists to the area can enjoy watching archery contests, jousting events, jugglers and fire eaters, while maidens and ladies of the court, dressed in their finery and cone-like coifs, walk along the terraces of the old Moorish palace in the historic town centre.

The events making up the tournament will continue until September 17. For more information see the Sintra Câmara website http://www.cm-sintra.pt
