Salir in Loulé is going back in time with its medieval fair, Salir do Tempo’2010, from today (Friday) until Sunday.
The fair will stage an historical recreation dedicated to the theme O Leão e a Moura (The Lion and the Moura).
A spokesman from Loulé Câmara said: “After the success of the first fair, it is time for its consolidation. We want to make this a must visit event for tourists in the Algarve during the summer.”
The theme of the fair aims to celebrate the historical traditions of Salir through one of its best known tales: “The Moura Encantada (Enchanted Moor) was the daughter of the last Muslim governor of Tavira and Salir and she became a damned soul, according to the tale. She is very respected by people in Salir, many of whom have said that they have seen or heard her on windy nights,” said the spokesman.
Entrance is free and visitors may also embody the spirit of the epoch by wearing clothing symbolising that age.
