Medal-winning athlete honoured by Lagos Council

Sandra Bailote, an athlete who competes for Olímpico Clube de Lagos, has been honoured by Lagos Council for her medal-winning performances at the European Masters Athletics Championships Non-Stadia, which were held between October 29 and 31 in Madeira.

The local athlete brought home two medals, including a gold medal in the women’s team half-marathon and a bronze medal in the cross-country relay race.

Said the local council, these two medals award the “work, persistence, motivation and dedication” of the athlete as well as the Olímpico Clube de Lagos and her coach Jorge Candeias.

The decision to honour Sandra Bailote was unanimously approved by the council. Lagos Mayor Hugo Pereira personally awarded a silver plate to the athlete.

Organised by European Masters Athletics, the European Masters Athletics Championships Non-Stadia is a biennial international athletics competition for masters athletes aged 35 and over.

The competition features a series of non-track and field athletics events, including road running such as a half marathon, relay cross country running events, and race-walking events.

It was the third time that the EMACNS was held in Portugal. In 2005 and 2016, the competition was held in the Algarve in Vila Real de Santo António.
