Kate and Gerry McCann have released two new images of their missing daughter’s last Christmas at home and said that it will be “heartbreaking” to face a third Christmas without Madeleine.
The release of the images, which are featured on the official Find Madeleine website, are to reinforce the fact that Madeleine is still missing and it will be another Christmas the McCanns will have to spend without their daughter. The new images show Madeleine playing with her younger sister, Amelie.
In a statement posted onto the website, Kate and Gerry McCann say: “It is heartbreaking for our family to accept the likelihood of spending a third Christmas without Madeleine. Her absence is even more tangible at this time of year. It is difficult also to believe that another year has passed by.”
They go on to say that they will “never stop looking for Madeleine” and their “resolve will not weaken” no matter what challenges are put in their way.
One such challenge has been Gonçalo Amaral, who is currently trying to overturn the banning of his book, The Truth of the Lie, in which he questions the McCanns’ account of the night Madeleine went missing.
On December 11, Kate McCann returned to Praia da Luz for the first time since Madeleine went missing, along with her husband Gerry and attended a service at the church of Nossa Senhora da Luz.
