McCanns given new hope

Kate and Gerry McCann have said they have been given new hope after child abduction victim Jaycee Lee Dugard reappeared after being held captive for 18 years.

The McCanns said it makes them more determined to continue their search for Madeleine.

Jaycee Lee Dugard was abducted at the age of 11 from her home in California in 1991 and was kept captive for 18 years.

She has now been reunited with her mother after walking into a police station with her captor and two children he fathered with her.

The McCanns said that nobody should assume that someone is not alive without any evidence to support it and that they should never give up hope of finding Madeleine.

Madeleine disappeared from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz on May 3, 2007.
