Mayor promises “new Faro” as vital avenue to begin construction

New avenue will be part of Faro’s third ring road

The last stage of construction of a new avenue which will be part of the third ring road around Faro (Terceira Circular) is due to begin soon, promising to improve traffic significantly in the Algarvian capital.

The avenue is named Mário Lyster Franco and is located in the Lejana area, between Estrada Senhora da Saúde and the EN2/Avenida 25 de Abril.

The works which will complete its construction have been awarded to Agrupamento Agrupamento José de Sousa Barra & Filhos, Lda/ Rolear.ON – Soluções de Engenharia, S.A, which won the public tender launched by Faro Council.

The works will cost over €2.1 million and are expected to last one year.

Says the council, “this important investment will guarantee a significant improvement of accessibility and fluidity” in Faro.

“In the next decade, this whole area will be urbanised and we will have a new ‘city’, a new centrality,” said Faro mayor Rogério Bacalhau.

He added that the completion of the third ring road will be “very positive for the municipality’s mobility, for those who need to enter or leave the town, and above all, for those who live here and the economic activities that may develop.”

The council also says that this project is being carried out thanks to a “bank loan,” which was considered the most “advantageous option for the council” and was approved in June 2021.
