Vila Real de Santo António (VRSA) mayor Luís Gomes has handed over the keys to a new home for José Silva, who was severely injured in an accident at this year’s football tournament Torneio do Guadiana.
After the opening game of the 10th edition of this competition on July 30, a stand at the VRSA Municipal Stadium gave way, leaving several people injured.
José Silva was seriously injured and, as a result of the accident, is currently in a wheelchair.
Luís Gomes told the Algarve Resident: “He is not alone and we will not cease to support him if necessary. This is our way of giving back some quality of life.”
The new house, with wider doors and a bathroom equipped for wheelchair users, has all the necessary conditions for José Silva’s reduced mobility.
“I have to thank VRSA Câmara for all the support,” he said.
