Scorching May: Portugal expects above 35ºC temperatures

Maximum wildfire danger in more than 90 mainland municipalities 

More than 90 municipalities in Portugal’s mainland districts of Faro (meaning entire Algarve), Santarém, Leiria, Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Guarda, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Viseu, Braga, Porto, Vila Real and Bragança are at maximum danger of wildfires today, according to national meteorological institute, IPMA, which puts more than 40 further municipalities in the districts of Braga, Via Real, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria, Santarém, Lisboa, Portalegre, Beja, Évora and Faro as at ‘very high’ danger.Because of the weather conditions, the danger of wildfires will remain high until at least Monday.
