A mass police protest has been scheduled for November 21 in Lisbon. The demo – involving PSP and GNR syndicates – will have the slogan “Zero Tolerance” and be demanding that police pay and conditions are brought up to levels previously pledged by the Socialist government.
Says syndicate boss Paulo Rodrigues ‘it’s time for the government to spell out what it really has in mind for the country’s police’.
The protest – location of which has not yet been revealed – was called after it became clear that the newly-modelled Socialist government was retaining Eduardo Cabrita as Ministry for Interior Administration.
Explain reports, police feel Cabrita has done nothing to improve their lot, which sees agents risking their lives for little more than the minimum wage and appalling conditions in many stations.
