Mass of polar air sees Portugal say goodbye to summer’s blistering temperatures

If you’re tiring of the relentless heat, this could be the news you were waiting for. A mass of polar air is on its way to Portugal and will see temperatures plummeting.

From Friday, the warm weather will be in retreat with strong winds exacerbating the change.

Says SIC, we will all start noticing the temperature drop today, but tomorrow (Friday) will be “even colder”.

Influencing the new cycle is an anticyclone which started northeast of the Azores but which has now extended up to Iceland.

As the winds become involved, potentially reaching up to 70 km/h, cold Icelandic air will be hitting the continent.

How long will it last? Definitely until Sunday, say reports, at which point temperatures will start rising again, and the wind will drop.
