Mass eviction

Around 40 people were forced to evacuate their homes in Salema’s Encosta do Sol council estate, Vila do Bispo, “due to the lack of rental payments”, a court ruled. Concerns have now been raised by the Left Bloc, which has questioned the government about housing solutions for these families. “Some had lived there for more than 20 years and have nowhere else to go,” said João Vasconcelos.  Householders claim their eviction has to do with the fact that the houses, facing the sea, are potential income earners.
