Marking World Day of Press Freedom, Marcelo refers to precarity within journalism

Marking World Day of Press Freedom, President Marcelo has warned of precarity within journalism. In a note on his official site, he referred to the sector’s “economic/ financial difficulties” , the precarity of staff involved, and the consumption of “distorted, uncontradicted and even false information” on social media. “It is with concern that we have seen on a national level the closing of the written press and radio stations, losing  local and regional proximity”, he said, stressing that a ‘strong, free press signifies a strong, free democracy”.
