Market stallholders ponder ‘giving up’ because of fuel costs

Feirantes – the people who tour regions of the country, attending ‘fairs’, selling all kinds of wares, always ‘cheap’ in comparison to retail prices – are caught between a rock and a hard place thanks to rising fuel costs. Many are reducing the number of venues they attend, and consequently losing clients. The end result could be ‘feirantes’ stopping their activity altogether. Another aspect is that less people appear to be attending fairs – again possibly because of rising fuel costs/ rising costs of living.
