SOCIALIST (PS) presidential candidate, Mário Soares, launched a stinging attack against his main opponent, Cavaco Silva, last week.
The elderly Portuguese statesman, who has already enjoyed two spells in Bélem Palace, said that those who shy away from public debates and refuse to speak their mind about the country “are not comfortable in their own skin”. Without referring to the former Social Democratic (PSD) Prime Minister by name, Mário Soares insisted on the importance of public debates saying that discussion was what fermented ideas, which is why he is prepared to discuss and debate “with two, three or five candidates”.
