Mário Centeno named “finance minister of the year” by FT magazine

Portugal’s finance minister Mário Centeno – already dubbed the Ronaldo of Ecofin for his financial fancy footwork (click here) – has now been named “finance minister of the year” by The Banker magazine.

Say reports, “the distinction is recognition for Portugal’s extraordinary economic recovery” following its €79 billion bailout.

The publication, produced by the Financial Times group, says Centeno can also look at his first 12 months as president of the Eurogroup “with well-deserved satisfaction”.
