Marchas Populares bring colour to Portimão

IN PORTUGAL, June is the month when Saints are remembered and celebrated with a range of marches, parades and all-round entertainment. This year, in Portimão, the tradition of parading throughout the streets will not be forgotten, and so at 10pm on June 10, 16, 18 and 24, the traditional Marchas Populares will take place in different locations throughout the borough.

The first parade will take place in the Zona Ribeirinha of Portimão on June 10. On June 16, the marchers will parade through the Zona Ribeirinha of Alvor and, on June 18, in Mexilhoeira Grande. The grand finale and closing parade will take place on June 24 in the Avenida Tomás Cabreira in Praia da Rocha.

This year, many different organisations, from seven areas of Portimão’s municipality, will take part in the parades, with over 450 people participating, evoking various themes surrounding the social and cultural aspects of Portimão.
