IN AN effort to raise awareness for the need to respect the rights of animals and the cruelty involved in bullfighting, the Coligação Unidos Contra as Touradas, the united alliance against bullfighting, is organising its sixth annual march on September 16 through the streets of Lisbon.
Beginning at 5pm, in Parque Eduardo VII (alongside Marquês de Pombal), the marchers will proceed through Picoas and Saldanha before arriving at Praça de Touros do Campo Pequeno (the recently inaugurated bullring), at 7.30pm.
During the march, there will be a range of entertainment and educational activities staged along the route in order to demonstrate that enjoyment does not need to be linked to animal cruelty.
Following the march, dinner will be available at a special discounted price at the Govindaji vegetarian restaurant in Oeiras.
The staging of this event has been timed to coincide with the bullfighting season in Portugal and to target supporters of bullfighting. The organisers of the march will also be highlighting the unnecessary suffering of many other animals and calling for people to respect the need for animals to lead a dignified life.
