In a note directed at parliament today, President Marcelo has requested “the necessary assent” of MPs to travel to Romania between December 19-20, to visit Portuguese troops stationed in the country. There are currently 222 soldiers of Portugal’s 1st National Deployed Force in Romania, as part of a NATO mission to ensure the defence of the country that borders Ukraine. Ironically, today Russia launched a new series of missile attacks on Ukraine territory – at least one of which is reported to have landed in Moldova.
