Marcelo to decorate brave Portuguese concierge who saved 30 lives in Paris

Brave Portuguese concierge Margarida dos Santos shot into the public eye in the wake of the Paris terror attacks last November after sheltering 30 terrified young people running from IS gunmen as they executed revellers at the Bataclan.

She has since been decorated by the Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo, and received the medal of merit from her hometown of Paredes – but now she is to receive a special award when President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa celebrates Portugal Day on June 10 in the French capital.

Designed as a way of showing solidarity with Portuguese emigrants in Paris, Marcelo announced at the beginning of his presidency that this year celebrations would move to the country that is home to so many migrating nationals.
