President Marcelo is in Brazil today, representing Portugal at the commemorations of 200 years of the country’s independence, and this time president Jair Bolsonaro has agreed to meet with him. Back in July when Marcelo was in the country to mark the first aerial South Atlantic crossing by Portuguese navigators Gago Coutinho and Sacudura Cabral, Mr Bolsonaro was “too busy” to receive Marcelo – reportedly peeved by the fact the Portuguese head of State was also meeting with political rival Lula da Silva. Next month Brazil will be holding presidential elections in which Bolsonaro’s chances against his rival are not rated highly.
