Marcelo commemorates start of second mandate on Tuesday

Portugal’s president Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will officially begin his second five-year mandate tomorrow (March 9), marking the occasion with two ceremonies – one in Lisbon, the other in Porto. The first, in the morning at the landmark Jerónimos Monastery, will involve placing flower garlands on the graves of Portuguese writer Luís de Camões and explorer Vasco de Gama. Around 100 people are expected to take part. The second, in the afternoon, will involve an ecumenical service, and even include a visit to Porto’s Islamic Cultural Centre.
