President Marcelo has arrived in Ireland today for the first official visit by a Portuguese president in 23 years. It’s a visit that was originally scheduled for 2020, but delayed due to the pandemic. Now, the plan is to “strengthen relationships with Irish authorities, in a European context, bearing in mind the post-Brexit situation and the relationship with the United Kingdom, as well as making contact with the Portuguese community” in Ireland. Portugal’s head of State is being accompanied for this two-day visit by foreign affairs minister João Gomes Cravinho, and five parliamentary MPs: Rosário Gambôa (PS), Germana Rocha ) PSD), Rui Paulo Sousa (CHEGA), Patrícia Gilvaz (Iniciativa Liberal), and Alma Rivera (PCP).
