Mar Shopping Algarve in Loulé will host free breast cancer screenings on Sunday, October 31, between 11am and 7pm, near the shopping centre’s pharmacy and HPA health clinic.
“Mar Shopping is associating itself with the celebrations of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, dedicated to preventing breast cancer, a disease that has a survival rate of over 90% in Portugal if it is detected and treated early,” the shopping centre says in a statement to the press.
The screenings will also focus on teaching people the best methods to carry out self-examinations on a regular basis.
Organised with the help of the Algarve Oncology Association (AOA), the screenings will be carried out on a first come first served basis.
These are just one of many health screenings that Mar Shopping Algarve and Mar Shopping Matosinhos (in the north of Portugal) have been organising every month to raise awareness about the importance of detecting illnesses early. The initiative will continue into 2022, with updates to be posted soon online at www.marshopping.com
Last month, the Algarve Oncology Association made a plea for support after 27 years supporting cancer patients in the region, having been hit hard by the effects of the pandemic (click here).
