Mar Shopping Algarve in Loulé has set up a helpline – 800 29 75 75 – that aims to tackle loneliness and social isolation among pensioners and people living by themselves or in remote areas. All they need to do is call to hear a friendly voice on the other side.
“Due to social distancing, family visits and even trips outside to speak to neighbours have been restricted. Many people feel very lonely at the moment,” says the shopping centre in a press statement.
By calling the helpline, they will have someone to talk to who will answer their questions about the current situation. “They are not alone,” it added.
The helpline has been created in association with the GNR police and Almancil parish council. It is available Monday to Friday from 11am to 3pm.
