MAR Shopping challenges visitors to increase their step count

The Algarve shopping centre is opening the doors of its Step Store between April 20 and 30 to encourage shoppers to exercise and adopt healthy habits.

MAR Shopping Algarve is organising ten days of activities, tips and incentives for healthier lifestyle habits. Between April 20 and 30, visitors will be invited to take steps towards healthier lives at the Step Store on the shopping centre’s ground floor.

In a press release, MAR Shopping Algarve highlighted the World Health Organization’s latest “Global Status Report on Physical Activity 2022”, which states that, between 2020 and 2030, some 500 million people will develop heart disease, obesity, diabetes or other non-communicable diseases due to physical inactivity.

To combat this epidemic, adults are advised to do between 150 and 300 minutes of moderate physical activity or between 75 and 150 minutes of intense physical activity per week.

MAR Shopping Algarve is therefore helping its visitors get into shape with this new challenge. To participate, “the first step is to put on some trainers and comfortable sports clothes and sign up at the Step Store, which will be installed on the ground floor of MAR Shopping Algarve (next to the Padaria do Bairro) between April 20 and 30. Then just go up to the treadmills and give it your best,” says the management.

Visitors will be encouraged to reach 10,000 steps with the help of the Moov Gym staff. They will also be invited to participate in health and wellbeing activities, such as workshops, clarification sessions and good practices, developed in partnership with the Clínica HPA, Farmácia Silveira and other local partners.

The activities schedule will soon be available on the MAR Shopping Algarve website.

“The purpose of these initiatives is to encourage our visitors and the communities we operate in to adopt a healthier lifestyle. We know that physical exercise strongly affects people’s physical and mental health. Since our mission is to inspire happier and more sustainable habits, actions to encourage exercise must be part of the free activities we offer our visitors”, points out Sandra Monteiro, spokesperson for Ingka Centres Portugal.

Monteiro also explains that this programme is part of the global “Health & Wellbeing” initiative Ingka Centres organises annually around springtime in the company’s various meeting places across several countries.

Schedule:

Monday to Friday | 14:00 – 20:00

Weekends and public holidays | 11:00 – 20:00

Dates and times of activities, as well as participation regulations, will be available at www.marshopping.com on April 20.
