Event is open to everyone
Mar Shopping Algarve is hosting a ‘Cãominhada Solidária’ (charitable dog walk) on Saturday, October 7 at 5pm.
The event aims to raise awareness about pet abandonment whilst promoting healthy lifestyles.
Anyone can turn up and participate for free, with or without a dog. However, only dogs with a leash and collar or harness will be allowed to participate.
Participants are encouraged to offer a donation, which will go to Algarve animal association Coração 100 Dono.
Portuguese TV presenter and tarot card reader Maya will taking part in the event accompanied by the dog she sponsors through the association.
There will also be demonstrations and a presentation by the GNR police canine unit.
“Unfortunately, the inexplicable phenomenon of pet abandonment persists, and our commitment as a pet-friendly space is to support these worthwhile initiatives,” said Mar Shopping Algarve manager Ana Antunes.
She added: “At Mar Shopping Algarve, we pay special attention to our four-legged friends every day. Here, animals are always welcome and can move around in common areas and some stores.”
According to the shopping centre, this initiative aligns with its social responsibility policy, AMAR, which aims to “promote the well-being of the community where it is located, as well as the pet animals that are part of it.”
