A fair entitled ‘Mar Algarve Expo’ will be held for the first time at Portimão Arena between October 9 and 11 to promote one of the Algarve’s most important attributes – its sea.
Organisers have said that the “primary objective of the event is to promote the economic and business potential of the Algarve region within the field of maritime economy.”
It will also be used as “a space to present and market various products and services to members of the industry”.
Exhibitors at the fair include a number of sea-related companies and public entities, while the event’s programme includes everything from seminars to workshops and even ‘show cookings’ held by the Hotelier and Tourism School of the Algarve.
One of the exhibitors will be the Algarve’s Tourism Board (RTA).
Said RTA president Desidério Silva, the board will try to promote the sea as a “precious resource” to reduce seasonality.
He added that “nautical and maritime tourism (cruises) are growing in the Algarve and are a good complement to the Sun & Sea product,” which he said accounts for 88% of the reasons foreign tourists visit the region.
Approximately 6,000 visitors are expected to attend the fair.
All events are free and the show runs between 10am and 9pm all three days.
‘Mar Algarve Expo’ is an initiative brought to life by Maralgarve, an association dedicated to the promotion of knowledge and the economy of the sea in the Algarve region, and organised by L PRO – Business International.
