Manuel Pinho petitions to be let out of house arrest: wife hopes to avoid €1 million bail

Ricardo Sá Fernandes, the lawyer acting for the Pinho couple – the former Socialist minister of the economy and his wife Alexandra, both cited in the long-running EDP ‘rents’ probe – is petitioning for both to be released from the crippling terms of bail set last month (click here). Mr Pinho wants to be freed from house arrest, and given the lightest possible bail conditions (to remain living at his home address), while his wife hopes to avoid paying her €1 million bail by exchanging it for the value of a property she owns in Braga. Today’s news does not mention Mr Pinho’s bail surety of €6 million, which he has said he has no means of paying (click here).
