Man turns himself in after robbing Faro bank

Man reportedly stole €400 before escaping by car

A 40-year-old man handed himself into a PSP police station last Friday (April 22) after robbing a bank in Faro.

The robbery took place a day earlier at around 11am at an ABanca agency near Faro Court.

According to Jornal de Notícias, the man threatened employees with a gun he had hidden in his jacket and left the bank with €400 in a bag. The newspaper added he escaped in a car which was parked near the bank during the heist and was driven by another person.

An investigation was immediately launched, but it only took one day for the man to hand himself over to authorities after “regretting the crime”, JN adds.

PJ police arrested the man and said he has “a record of similar crimes”. The suspect has already been heard in court and was remanded in custody.
