A 23-year-old man stabbed his father to death in a row about money to buy drugs, which the victim had refused to give to his son.
A family member who tried to intervene in the violent attack in Armação de Pêra was injured and taken to hospital.
The killer, who was said to have a record for drug-taking, fled to a nearby café in his blood-soaked shirt, where he declared that he had just killed his 50-year-old father at a shop entrance, according to a report in Correio da Manhã newspaper.
He was arrested in the vicinity soon afterwards by police and remanded in custody by a court in Silves to await trial.
