Man kills woman and then explodes her body

In one of the most macabre cases of domestic violence this year, a 60-year-old man has killed his partner outside a Sacavém bus station, and then exploded her body. A source for Greater Lisbon police said: “The man fired shots at what we think was his partner, and then, we still don’t know how, made the victim’s body explode.” The killer then committed suicide by shooting himself.

The horror took place between 9.30 and 10am this morning, in the carpark outside the bus station next to Trancão river.

Said police commissioner Rui Costa of Cometlis (Lisbon’s Metropolitan Command): “We’re treating this as a case of murder/suicide”.

The dead woman, thought to have been 45 years old, was a cleaner at the bus station, he added.

Bomb squad police have been called in to check the area and, according to Diário de Notícias, have confirmed the “inexistence of any other explosive devices”.

The case is now in the hands of the PJ (judicial police) as news stations carry accounts from people in the area at the time who all talk of a “very loud bang”.
