Man kills woman and leaves ex-girlfriend fighting for her life in pastry shop shooting

A young woman died and another was left fighting for her life this morning (April 15) in a shooting that took place at a pastry shop in Pinhão, Alijó (Vila Real).

Described as a “crime of passion”, the shooting happened at around 7am when the two cousins, aged 22 and 21, were opening the Princesa do Douro pastry shop.

According to national media, the shooter intended to kill his ex-girlfriend but also shot her cousin, who died from the wounds.

His ex-girlfriend – who is said to have ended the relationship recently – is fighting for her life at Santo António Hospital in Porto.

The shooter, 38, drove away from the scene in his BMW but turned himself into police two hours after his crimes.

Six other people were in the pastry shop at the time of the shooting but no one else was hurt.

The man was expected to be heard in court.
