A 51-year-old man was killed almost instantly on Tuesday (February 7) when he was run over by a truck on the EN398 road which links Olhão to the A22 motorway.
The lorry also hit one of the man’s two dogs but incredibly the animal survived.
The accident happened shortly after 5am in Sítio da Furnalha on a section of the road “not usually used by pedestrians”.
Authorities believe the lorry driver did not see the man as there is no lighting on the road and it was still dark at the time.
CM adds that the victim lived in São Brás de Alportel and may have been walking home.
GNR police are investigating.
