Man in custody suspected of killing beach bar owner in Aljezur

A man has been remanded in custody suspected of killing a 43-year-old beach bar owner in Aljezur on Sunday morning.

The suspect is 41-year-old André Lourenço, who was reportedly caught on CCTV footage attacking the victim’s brother at another establishment that their family owned in the Carrapateira area just days before the shooting.

Correio da Manhã tabloid reports that André Lourenço had a long history of conflicts with the victim, Jorge Cabrita, and his family. Court cases had been lodged against each other.

Authorities were aware of the issues, but the dispute came to a tragic end when Lourenço allegedly killed Cabrita with a shotgun shot to the chest at the Amado Bar at Amado beach.

CM reports that the alleged attacker, who was wearing a hoodie to conceal his face, also fired two shots at an employee and a relative of Cabrita’s but missed. Emergency services tried to resuscitate the victim, but his injuries were too severe, and his death was confirmed at the scene.

André Lourenço was reportedly able to escape in his car and drove to his home in Carrapateira where GNR police located him shortly after.

He will now await trial in jail.
