Police have a man in custody suspected of the horrific killing of an 83-year-old widow in Faro on Sunday, and the violent beating of two other women in their 90s in Olhão.
The 26-year-old, already known to police, was arrested in Olhão on Monday night, as a result of a joint operation between PSP and PJ forces.
In a statement released today, the PJ said it has “strong suspicions” that the man is not only behind the killing of 83-year-old Delmira Miranda in Faro, but also responsible for robberies in Olhão that saw both victims, one aged 92, the other 95, badly beaten and requiring treatment in hospital.
The 95-year-old was so seriously hurt that she was transferred to hospital in Lisbon-
Reports describe how a neighbour discovered Delmira Miranda’s body on Sunday after she noticed that the door of the ground floor home in which the woman lived was ‘broken open’, and everything inside ‘in a mess with lots of blood on the floor’.
Police since revealed that the elderly woman had been tied up before being brutally beaten and robbed of various valuables.
