The body of a man in his 60s, carrying no identification, was found near Praia da Rocha’s Fortaleza de Santa Catarina on Monday morning (December 5).
Authorities suspect the man slipped and plunged 20 metres from the top of the fortress, though national tabloid Correio da Manhã says the autopsy will be important to establish what happened.
CM adds that the man did not have any identification or a mobile phone with him and was found by a passer-by.
INEM emergency services and Portimão firefighters were called to the scene. PJ police are in charge of the investigation and are said to be hoping for any witnesses to come forward.
