Man found dead in Faro prison

A 34-year-old prisoner was found dead in his cell in Faro prison recently. The body has been taken to Faro Hospital, where it will undergo an autopsy to confirm how the prisoner died.

The body did not show any signs of a violent attack.

The general director of the prison service will open the investigation into the case of the prisoner, who was found dead in his cell, which only he occupied, by a prison guard at around 8am.

The individual, whose identity has not been revealed, had been in prison for 11 days and was being accompanied by a psychiatrist. A spokesperson for Faro prison added that the individual, born in Beja, was acting “normally” in the days leading up to his death and was not manifesting any signs of physical ailment. “We believe that he died in his sleep.”
