The body of a 56-year-old American man was found at the bottom of the lift at Praia do Penedo in Albufeira last Thursday, September 10.
According to Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã, the body was found by a security guard at 8am, who called the authorities.
The emergency services arrived at the scene and tried to resuscitate the man, without success, and his body was taken to the morgue at Portimão’s Barlavento hospital after midday.
The Polícia Judiciária, who collected evidence at the scene, told the Algarve Resident that they are investigating and added that they were unable to comment further on the case.
