A worker has been crushed to death by six glass plates weighing around 600 kilos in what is believed to have been a freak accident in Vila Real de Santo António.
The accident happened on Wednesday morning at the town’s sports complex when the glass plates were being moved by a crane.
The victim is a 51-year-old man from Oeiras, according to Correio da Manhã tabloid.
The tabloid adds that several workers were involved in moving the glass plates from the sports complex’s paddle courts when the horrific scene ensued.
The man immediately went into cardiorespiratory arrest and was taken to VRSA’s emergency health unit, where he was pronounced dead shortly after.
An investigation is now underway to determine if the tragic incident was due to “negligence”.
