Man crashes ‘stolen’ car near Vilamoura after disrespecting orders to stop at border

A 34-year-old Spanish man who kept driving after being ordered to stop by border control authorities at the Guadiana Bridge was arrested after his car overturned on the EN125 road near Vilamoura on Thursday afternoon.

The driver was reportedly able to dodge authorities the moment he entered Portugal until Albufeira, where he was finally located by GNR police.

A high-speed chase ensued until the car overturned near the EN125 exit to Vilamoura.

The man, said to be Spanish, tried to escape on foot after the crash but was caught and arrested, national tabloid Correio da Manhã reports.

The driver reportedly has a criminal record and was driving a car that had been stolen in Spain, CM adds.
