A 58-year-old man has been arrested and remanded in custody in Silves after shooting his wife in their own home with a sawed-off shotgun.
The horrific ordeal happened on Sunday afternoon (April 19) in Cerro de São Miguel (Silves) when GNR police were alerted to a “case of domestic violence involving a murder attempt using a firearm”.
When officers arrived, they found the woman “sitting at the entrance of the couple’s home with the suspect trying to stop bleeding from her arm”.
The police force says the couple got into a heated argument which escalated quickly, which led to the man shooting her. She sustained injuries to her right arm and abdomen.
The woman was assisted at the scene by an INEM medical team and taken to Portimão Hospital, while the man was heard at Silves’ criminal court. He will await trial at Olhão prison suspected of crimes of domestic violence and attempted murder.
