Man arrested in Loulé after spitting on people and yelling he was infected with Covid-19

A man was arrested in Loulé last weekend after spitting on several people while screaming that he was infected with the Covid-19 virus.

His father was also arrested for attacking GNR police agents.

The incident happened at around 5.30pm on Saturday (March 14) on Rua David Teixeira near a Pingo Doce supermarket.

The 39-year-old man was intercepted by GNR police agents who were alerted by citizens at the scene.

But the situation became even more tense when the man’s father arrived by car, threatening and insulting the officers.

He even tried to get his son into his car so that they could escape.

The agents were able to get the father off the road but as they were handcuffing him, his son started attacking them.

The two men were finally arrested. The younger man and two agents suffered minor injuries.

INEM emergency services were contacted by the GNR in order to test the man for Covid-19. It has not been revealed whether any of the people who the man tried to spit on will also undergo tests.
