An Almancil man has been arrested after rigging his own kidnapping.
The 39-year-old is alleged to have tried to trick a relative into paying a €800 ransom, on the basis that he had been kidnapped by drug-dealers. He is understood to have gone to the lengths of calling the relative, pretending to be one of the nappers.
But the family warned police who in turn waited in the spot specified for the ransom drop-off.
The man now faces charges of extortion, faking a kidnapping and resisting arrest.
