A 22-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly using a hammer to break into nine stores in Faro on Saturday night.
PSP police were able to track down the man with the help of store owners and a witness at around midnight, just an hour and a half after receiving the alert.
The young man, said to be Portuguese, was caught with €285 in cash and a hammer believed to have been used to break into the stores.
PSP adds that the man may also be behind other robberies detected recently in the Algarvian capital.
The man was due to appear before a judge this Monday.
