SOUTH AFRICA’S most soulful and well known diva, Miriam Makeba, has died.
The singer, fondly known as Mama Africa, gave South Africans hope when the country was gripped by apartheid. The singer had a dazzling career, performing with the likes of Dizzy Gillsepie and Nina Simone as well as singing for some of the world’s most inspiring leaders including John F Kennedy and Nelson Mandela.
The 76-year-old died following a heart attack while on stage in Italy.
