Making waves

Alvor beach is the venue for a World Kitesurf Championship stage until Sunday for the fourth consecutive year.

The PKRA (Professional Kite Riders Association) event sees the sport’s elite including Dutch aces Kevin Langeree and Susi Mai in action while Portugal’s principal hope for a podium finish is national senior champion Paulino Pereira.

At the same time it has been announced that Portugal is to host the more conventional surfing top World Tour Rip Curl ninth stage between July 28 and August 12 for the first time, a competition boasting stars such as Kelly Slater and the Algarve’s very own Marlon Lipke.
