Major changes at Praia da Rocha beachfront

WORK TO refurbish and reorganise Praia da Rocha beachfront is well underway and should be finished by the beginning of June, in time for the summer season.

This is the progress report given by Empresa Municipal de Águas e Resíduos de Portimão (EMARP), the entity responsible for the launch and co-ordination of the work.

João Rosa, managing director of EMARP, confirms that the work, which includes the demolition and reconstruction of 16 bars and restaurants, is going according to schedule. Eight establishments will be rebuilt, while the remaining eight will be constructed as four twin units.

This major project has been ordered under the implementation of the Plano de Ordenamento da Orla Costeira Burgau/Vilamoura, a plan for the coastline between Burgau and Vilamoura, which defines safety and environmental criteria.

Following long negotiations, the 16 business owners finally found a solution that is economically viable for all, contracting construction company Grupo DDC to carry out the work at a cost of 2.5million euros.

In addition, a pumping station is under construction at the car park in front of Hotel Júpiter, where the waste from the 16 establishments will be directed. Improvements are also being made to the beach accesses and public walkways, and lighting is being installed along the entire beachfront.
